Cercat® Filter: High efficiency and compactness for air pollution control
In order to deal with stricter and stricter pollution emission standards, MAGUIN decided to develop an innovative flue gas treatment solution that would achieve high treatment performances on main pollutants at a range of temperature from 260 to 400oC. The CERCAT® filter was thus put on the market in 2006.
Based on ceramic filter technology, the CERCAT® solution has been developed to treat dust, acid gases and NOx in one single unit. The greatest innovation lies in the fact that the catalyst is embedded within the ceramic fibres of the ‘candles’. It is, therefore, protected from dust – which increases its lifetime and there is no need for a separate catalyst unit – which also saves space.
Given the evolution of pollution regulations, it is predictable that glass manufacturers will face harder and harder standards in the coming years. The CERCAT® filter can, therefore, present an efficient and cost-effective solution for dealing with pollutants.
In 2008, two well-known glass manufacturers decided to choose the CERCAT® solution to equip their installations in Europe:
- One for a float unit, treating a gas volume of 80,000 Nm3/h at 540oC
- The second for treating a gas volume of 33,000 Nm3/h at 350oC, for a furnace producing glass for tableware.
These CERCAT® installations have now been commissioned, and combine a high filtration efficiency with SO2 neutralization and NOx catalytic reduction.
These glass manufacturers now have a flue gas treatment, which will make sure that they meet the current standards, but which will also allow them to adapt easily to the future evolution of the regulations.
